Spate of thefts

TWO thefts, one involving knife-wielding men, took place in Cheshire towns over the weekend.

A 54-year-old woman was opening St Michael's newsagents, on Hale Road, Widnes, 
on Sunday, when she was confronted by a man brandishing what she believes was a 

She handed over the money from the till before the thief fled on foot following
the incident at 7.20am. The woman was left uninjured.

The robber is described as wearing a two tone beige hooded jacket with the
initials DG and a black and red scarf covering his head and face.

He was a white male, of medium build, 5ft 10, with fair hair and was also
carrying a bag on his shoulder.

In an earlier separate incident, two knife-wielding men stole cash, cigarettes and phone cards from a service station in Ellesmere Port.

The men threatened a 25-year-old female assistant and forced her to lie on the
floor while they snatched the goods.

She was unharmed, but shaken by the incident.

The robbery happened on Friday, January 25, shortly before 9pm at the Thornton service station in Childer Thornton. Anyone with information should contact Det
