A MAN burst into a Rudheath convenience store armed with a hammer and demanded cash from the till on Monday night.

He escaped with about £100 after targeting Ray’s Shop on Gadbrook Road. The 40-year-old female shopkeeper was “shaken up” after the ordeal, but unharmed, said owner Ray Luckraft.

A police spokesman said: “Just before 7.50pm we received a report of a robbery at Ray’s. A man entered the shop armed with a hammer and demanded cash from the till.”

The shop worker handed over the money and the man, aged about 20-25, ran off.

“He is approximately 6ft tall and of slim build,” said the police spokesman.

“He is described by the witness as having sharp features and dark eyes. He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood pulled up, and dark trousers.”

Detectives are studying shop CCTV in a bid to shed light on the identity of the robber.
