As a result of the police investigation seven men were today arrested with the incident and are currently in custody awaiting interview.”

Det Insp Gareth Lee of Northwich CID, who is leading the investigation, said this afternoon: “Thankfully, nobody was harmed, although this incident could have potentially had very serious consequences.

“Gun crime is very low in this area and Cheshire as a whole and incidents of this nature remain very rare, and as such treated very seriously.

“We know that local residents are aware of this incident, and we urge anyone with any information, or anyone who witnessed this incident, to come forward.
