STUDENTS at West Cheshire College found themselves in the middle of the election campaign during a whistle-stop visit to Ellesmere Port by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Rt Hon Shaun Woodward spent 30 minutes answering questions before enjoying a quick tour of the new development at the Ellesmere Port campus.

Principal Sara Mogel said: “It was a great experience for the students to have a chance to question a leading politician on the working of government and the general election.

“As a college we are always delighted when politicians take an interest in further education and recognise its importance to the local economy.”

Speaking during the question and answer session, Mr Woodward said: “You need a future where there are going to be jobs. This won’t happen just by chance – education and training will be vital.”

Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Andrew Miller added: “I really wanted to show Shaun Woodward, a cabinet minister, the fantastic work that’s going on at the college both academically and in terms of the new building.”
