A SCHOOL given an 18-month reprieve after being threatened with the axe is preparing for community activities in the New Year.

Sassy Salsa, introductory Pilates, Kids Saturday Sports Club and a Water-Colour Workshop are all kicking off in the New Year at Delamere CofE Primary School.

Steve Docking, headteacher, said: “These classes will raise the profile of the school locally. It demonstrates the positive support from our community and ensures that the school is at the heart of daily life within this rural area.”

The classes have been set up as a result of a survey sent to all local residents during the summer holidays.

It is hoped that if the new classes are successful more can be added throughout 2008.

Adult salsa starts on 7th January, every Monday, for five weeks in the evening at 7.30pm followed by an introductory to pilates on Wednesdays at 7.30pm. The cost of a five- week session for either class is £17.50.

Junior Sports Club begins on Saturday, January 12, from 10am until 11.30am for five weeks and is open to children aged between five and 11 years.

Toddlers aged between two and four have their own multi-skills fun at the same time on Saturday.

The five-week session costs £10 per child and includes a drink and snack.
