PEOPLE in Ellesmere Port are being urged to join the British Red Cross team for The BUPA Great Manchester Run.

The charity has guaranteed places in this year’s race, which takes place on Sunday, May 17, and is appealing for keen or first-time runners to get involved.

The run takes in a number of the city’s famous landmarks, including Old Trafford, and is the biggest 10k event in the UK.

Senior fundraiser for Cheshire Karen Jones said “The BUPA Great Manchester Run is a fantastic event whether you are an experienced runner or just getting started.

“Over 30,000 runners will be taking to the streets of Manchester to raise millions of pounds for numerous charities and we are looking for runners to make this year’s Red Cross team the biggest and best yet.”

Guaranteed Red Cross places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

It costs £35 to register and runners are asked to pledge to raise £150 in sponsorship to enable the charity to continue its vital work both in Cheshire and further afield.

People can also take part in the world’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run, which takes place on Sunday, September 20.
