YEAR 4 pupils of Winnington Primary School have been getting creative to come up with a unique design for a bench at a Northwich beauty spot.

Award-winning ‘chainsaw artist’ Simon O’Rourke has been commissioned to carve the designs into a fallen oak tree at Furey Wood.

The seat will be placed in a spot looking out over the River Weaver and Carey Park.

The children explored the site with Vale Royal countryside ranger Martin Harrison to get ideas for what they might like to see carved into the seat and bench. Then they returned to school to draw those ideas with Martin and Simon.

Tabitha Pulford, eight, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the designs after they’ve been carved in the wood. I’m really excited and can’t wait for it to be finished.”
