Children at Belgrave Primary School are full of thanks for their parent teacher association.

The youngsters in Year 6 have just returned from a week’s residential course in Conway and with help from funds raised by the school’s PTA.

Headteacher Deanne Garratt explains: “When Belgrave became a primary in 2008 it was decided that an outdoors adventure residential programme would be an important aspect of what we offered and we are still committed to this plan five years later.

“We have seen what children have gained and the smiles on their faces say it all.

“In 2011 the PTA offered to keep the cost to £200 for each pupil by subsidising the week-long programme to Conway to enable all children to be able to attend and they have continued this for three years.

“This year, the 43 pupils in Year 6 had an amazing time, as they always do.”

Activities on the course include abseiling, canoeing, gorge walking, sailing, surfing, raft building and low and high ropes.

This year, the PTA presented a cheque to the school for £3,420 from events including a Wild West social, a comedy night, a Christmas fair, a rainbow raffle and significant sponsorship money from the Chester Half Marathon PTA team, the Iron Man Challenge and a trek up Kilimanjaro.

The children expressed their thanks to the PTA at an assembly in which an open letter finished with the line: “Thank you for funding the residential and we hope that the trip to the Conway Centre stays in the curriculum so other children can have the same experience”
