THE old standard of the Ellesmere Port branch of the Cheshire Regiment Association is now proudly displayed in the Mayoral Suite of Ellesmere Port Civic Hall.

Deputy Mayor councillor Gareth Anderson met members of the Ellesmere Port branch of the Association last year when he was Mayor and their new standard was being dedicated.

He said: “When I met members they said they were looking to ‘lay up’ the old standard and that was when I had the idea of having it displayed in the Civic Hall.

“I am proud to have used some of my Member’s Budget to display the standard and would like to thank the Co-operative Funeral Service for providing a brass plaque.”

Gordon Kipps, secretary of the Ellesmere Port branch of the Cheshire Regiment Association, said: “This was a very proud moment for all of us and the standard is now preserved for future generations.

“We would like to offer our sincere thanks to councillor Anderson and the Ellesmere Port Charter Trust.”

The Cheshire Regiment Association is committed to keeping the comradeship of the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment alive as well as assisting members in need.
