A FANATICAL follower of ITV drama Heartbeat has met his idols on-set this week after bidding more than £600 for an exclusive behind the scenes tour.
Wayne Lever, from Rudheath, was the highest bidder for the unique prize in Smooth Radio’s recent charity auction in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 41-year-old carer visited the set in Leeds with his friend Philip Adshead and Smooth breakfast presenter Chris Best to enjoy the ultimate Heartbeat Experience.
Wayne, who got the trip as a Christmas present, toured the room sets of the 1960s police drama and watched scenes being filmed.
He also met cast members Tricia Penrose, who plays Gina Ward, Gwen Taylor alias Peggy Armstrong and David Lonsdale, who plays David Stockwell.
He said: “I’ve always loved Heartbeat, it’s a great series and has some really strong storylines with a good messages about morals and how to live life well.
“Meeting the characters was great fun, it was very strange to see them in the flesh but they were really friendly and had plenty of time for a chat.”
Smooth Radio’s charity auction and Bring A Pound To Work Day raised more than £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
