A GROUP of budding designers have been given the red carpet treatment at a television premiere.

Pupils at Ysgol Maeshyfryd, in Cynwyd, designed a key prop for the Bafta award-winning programme, Meees, featuring a family of singing, dancing sheep.

The second series starts on S4C on Monday and as a reward the creative youngsters from Denbighshire were given a sneak preview.

There was a party atmosphere as the children and members of the cast trod a Hollywood-style red carpet when they arrived at the premiere.

Two of the characters, Jaaason and Meeedea, were also there to join in the fun and provide some entertainment.

Headteacher Eirian Owain said: “This has been a brilliant experience for our pupils from the outset and having the premiere and seeing their design coming alive on screen was great.”

Jade Cole, 11, said: “The premiere was brilliant. I loved the characters Jaaason and Meeedea very much and it was great to see them.

“It was very exciting.”

Aled Price Jones, 10, said: “The premiere was amazing and it was good they came to the school to show the programme to us before anyone else in the world.

“It was really great.”

The Meees are the creation of television producer Nia Ceidiog who was raised in the Wrexham area and whose family hails from nearby Llandrillo. They are an extended family of sheep who sing rap and opera while promoting recycling and racial tolerance.
