POLICE have issued an appeal for help from the public as lead thieves continue to target roofs in Neston.

Last week thieves struck another two roofs following a number of similar incidents in recent weeks.

Cheshire police have stepped up patrols in the area and are advising the community on how to prevent further instances and bring the thieves to justice.

Officers carrying out patrols in Neston on Wednesday, July 26 , alerted staff at Neston Medical Centre, Liverpool Road, when they noticed lead had been stolen from the roof.

The same day police received information that St Winefride’s Church, Little Neston, had also been targeted by lead thieves.

St Mary of Angels RC Church, Chester Road, Hooton, was hit twice within a six-week period.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Price said: “I would ask the local community to help deter thieves by reporting suspicious activity, particularly any sightings of people accessing roofs and buildings by way of ladders.”

Police are now targeting vehicles used to transport building materials and conducting stopchecks of vehicles and occupants.

Anyone with information should call Cheshire Constabulary on 0845 458 0000.
