TWO gifted reception class pupils are celebrating after their poems were chosen to feature in an anthology of work from talented young writers.

Five-year-old Charlie Young and Charlotte Bevan, four, composed the poems – based on the theme ‘My day at…’ – while attending Ledsham Day Nursery in Ellesmere Port in the summer.

Now in their first term at Childer Thornton Primary School, the pair have been selected from thousands of entries to feature in a Young Writers anthology.

Charlie’s proud mum Suzy, from Childer Thornton, said: “I was on holiday and I got a message saying Charlie had been selected.

“You just don’t expect it at that age, so it’s nice. I think the school are made up because the two of them are doing really well. They were pretty thrilled, the pair of them.”

Kim Hughes, who was Charlie and Charlotte’s key worker at nursery, added: “It’s lovely that their poems have been chosen. I knew Charlie and Charlotte loved writing anyway – they were always sitting together in the writing corner.”

Young Writers has worked with schools and parents for more than 20 years, encouraging children and teenagers to engage in creative writing
