A DESPERATE and violent man who robbed a family doctor to get drugs has been jailed for three years.

Warren George Davies, 26, left GP Anthony Kaufman 'frightened and shaken' after confronting him in his surgery, threatening him and trying to punch him.

He had earlier headbutted a hospital security guard in a separate incident.

Judge Roger Dutton, sitting at Chester Crown Court, told Davies he was being punished heavily because these were two 'serious attacks' on NHS staff.

Davies, formerly of Stamford Road and now of Plas Dinas, both Blacon, went to Dr Kaufman's surgery at the Western Avenue Medical Centre in Blacon at 9.10am on March 24.

Defending, Dennis Talbot said: 'Davies had just come out of a psychiatric hospital and went to the doctor for some medication.'

Davies claimed he had not been given any drugs when he had been discharged.

But the prosecution said it is the normal practice for the hospital to fax the patient's familyu doctor about any drug requirements. There had been no such communication here.

Dr Kaufman therefore told Davies to go back to the hospital and ask for some medication.

But Davies became angry and aggressive, saying he was not going back. 'I want my drugs from you,' he told the GP.

Davies became more aggressive, and started throwing items such as paperwork from the doctor's desk.

Dr Kaufman said he was going to ring the police, but Davies stood in front of him to stop him leaving the room. He then threw a punch at the GP's face, but missed.

To placate Davies, Dr Kaufman wrote a prescription with a fake signature. But Davies was not happy and demanded a proper prescription.

Dr Kaufman gave him one and Davies left. He was arrested minutes later, sitting on a wall outside the shops in The Parade, Blacon.

Davies admitted robbing the GP of the two prescription forms.

He also asked for a charge of assault to be considered by the court.

This relates to an incident at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral on March 13.

The court heard Davies had been in the short-stay observational ward in an 'emotional and distressed state'. But he began threatening staff by waving a chair around.

Hospital staff restrained him until police arrived. They were escorting him out when he suddenly broke free and ran towards security guard Phillip Redfearn.

Davies headbutted him to the forhead. The guard bled profusely from the wound, which was 2cm long, the court heard.
