A COMMUNITY centre in Ellesmere Port has been given a new lease of life.

Cllr Diane Roberts donated £4,800 of her yearly member budget grant to upgrade the facilities at Overpool Community Centre for users – providing a range of new amenities including TV, DVD player, microwave, toaster, china and cutlery.

At the same time the council undertook improvement works including painting walls and installing new ceilings and environmental lights.

Local painting contractors Bagnalls contacted the Our Place team looking for a community project they could deliver for community benefit, and offered to repaint the outside of the building.

Painter Wes Higginson from Little Sutton, who came up through the company’s apprenticeship programme, completed the external painting of the centre, under the Bagnalls Community Paintbrush Scheme.

Cllr Roberts said: “I felt it was important to spend some of my member budget grant on the project at Overpool to ensure that the cooking group who use the kitchen had improved facilities and a new TV and DVD player could be purchased for the benefit of all.”

Anyone looking to find out more about using the centres, or to get involved with your local centre, please contact the Our Place team on 0151 356 6450 or email ourplace@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk to find out details.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their local councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
