AN OVERGROWN footpath in Neston used by cars for parking is now back in pedestrian use.

The clean-up scheme for the space, located near Burton Manor College, was paid for by Little Neston and Burton councillor Kay Loch from her member’s budget and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Cllr Loch said: “Cars have been parking on the path alongside the high brick boundary wall of Burton Manor College, which has made the surface poor and together with the vehicles caused obstructions to pedestrians.

“The solution was obvious – clear back the overgrowth, resurface the footpath, remove a dead tree and install new kerbs where necessary.”

The work has now been completed, overseen by the council highways department and carried out by council contractor Ringway.

Cllr Loch added: “Walkers and children making their way to school in Burton now see an improvement in their safety.”

Member’s budget grants of £10,000 are allocated to each councillor at the beginning of each financial year and must be used within a ward for community benefit.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
