PORTHMADOG appeared to hit double trouble early on, when their goalkeeper was sent off and they conceded a goal, but mounted a stirring take-over to continue their profitable trips to South Wales.

After forcing 1-1 draws at Haverfordwest and Carmarthen, The Traeth travellers upset hosts Port Talbot with goals from Jason Sadler and recent arrival Clayton Blackmore.

Joint manager Viv Williams said: “This was a huge test that called for big men and no praise is high enough for the lads, who did their jobs superbly.

“It was absolutely fantastic and the players are due a massive amount of credit for another marvellous performance that proves our league position does not reflect the way we are playing”.

Keeper Richard Harvey fell foul of Trelawnyd referee Andy Richards in the fifth minute for an outside the box tackle on home forward Lee John and was shown an instant red card.

Right-back John Gwynfor Jones took over between the posts but was beaten on 13 minutes by Port Talbot’s Dean Johnston, with a header.

Porthmadog’s fightback began within four minutes, thanks to an equaliser from Sadler

What turned out to be the match-winner was provided by ex-Bangor City manager Blackmore on 41 minutes – a 30-yarder that bounced awkwardly in front of Kristian Rogers and ended up in the net.

Both teams had chances to win the game in the second half, with Blackmore again going close for Porthmadog, also Sadler, while the home team put in good efforts from Dane Williams and Chad Bond.
