IT was a case of mother makes three when a family from Anderton decided to set its sights on a healthy career.

And if all goes according to plan Sue Tobin, 40, her son Robert, 21, and 20-year-old daughter Megan will all qualify as nurses together.

They have all returned to the classroom as part of a three year course to gain a Diploma in Higher Education (Nursing).

Sue, of Hough Lane, set the ball rolling when she gained an NVQ Level 3 in care while working at a Mobberley nursing home.

She said: 'My son was at university doing accountancy and he was helping us out for a while. While working at the home, he decided he would like more of a hands-on job, which meant more than sitting behind a desk all day.'

Her daughter Megan also opted for a nursing career after a spell working with her mum at the home for the elderly.

Sue added: 'I feel I'm very lucky. Most mums don't understand the pressure their youngsters are under as they work towards their exams.

'I certainly do because we're all going through the same thing together.

'Its what we want to do and I would would encourage anyone who wants a worthwhile career to do the same.'

The family is on the first year's intake of a nurse-training initiative formed by Warrington Hospital and Chester College, based at the Nurses Training School at Warrington.

Paul Tubbs, head of education at Warrington Hospital, said: 'We are not only interested in recruiting school leavers, we're very interested in mature entrants and anyone who is motivated towards a career in health care, especially nursing.'
