PROSTITUTE killer Mark Corner murdered his two victims when he was a community patient of Mersey Care NHS Trust.

The trust has launched an investigation into how he was looked after and another NHS trust will hold a separate inquiry.

Today, the ECHO can reveal Corner was detained by police under the Mental Health Act in the summer of 2002.

He was found brandishing a knife and threatening neighbours who lived next door to his parents in Walton.

Corner was cared for on the psychiatric unit at Fazakerley hospital under the supervision of Mersey Care.

They then sent him home and he became a community patient, which meant that he had to at tend regular appointments at the unit.

But in the weeks before the killings, it is understood Corner stopped going to the hospital.

The part-time security guard also stopped taking the pills to control his extreme schizophrenia.

A Mersey Care NHS Trust spokeswoman said: "There is an internal inquiry ongoing.

"In the future, there will also be an external investigation. That will more than likely be conducted by another NHS trust.

"It would be inappropriate to comment on any possible outcome of that inquiry."

Merseyside police detective chief inspector Lol Carr said: "We are aware that Mr Corner was not taking his medi-cation in the period leading up to his arrest.

"I cannot comment on any issues surrounding his care."
