PLANS for 2,000 homes have been redrawn after public consultation.

Fresh plans for the Little Sutton site south of Ledsham Road will be unveiled next week, ahead of a formal planning application being submitted at the end of April.

Developer Redrow Homes will display details of the proposed masterplan, for land south of Ledsham Road, at Little Sutton Library from March 10 to April 2, prior to a planning application being submitted.

Victoria Murray, head of land and planning for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “Following a community consultation event last September and on-going discussions with interested parties, led by award-winning planners and master planners Terence O’Rourke Ltd, we have taken all the feedback on board and refreshed our proposed masterplan for the development.”

Part of the site has previously been allocated for housing within the Local Plan and the remainder earmarked for future development beyond 2011.

The land has potential for about 2,000 homes and as well as public amenities.

Victoria added: “We hope that local people will see that we have taken their views on board and that the potential benefits of this scheme to the community and local economy are extensive.

“Subject to planning permission, the scheme will provide high-quality family homes set within an extensive framework of landscaped parks and public open spaces as well providing a new primary school, shops and other community facilities.”

But the Ledsham and Manor Action Group is opposed to building on the site.

More than 170 people have signed a petition to the council to stop what they describe as the allocation of high-quality farmland for housing.

They argue the land could be used for food production and that a 2,000-home scheme would have a huge impact on traffic volume.

They also claim new residents could be exposed to health and safety risks from close proximity to nuclear reprocessing, water treatment works and oil pipelines.
