A NATIONAL work experience programme has helped people in Ellesmere Port to secure jobs at the new M&S store.

Marks & Start, which provides work placements with M&S, has helped 30 people from the area to get roles at Cheshire Oaks.

Started in 2004, Marks & Start helps people who face barriers to employment by providing work placements in stores and offices.

It is a joint programme between M&S and partners The Prince’s Trust, Remploy, Business Action on Homelessness and Gingerbread.

The new store has aimed to make a positive impact in the area by providing jobs.

Hilary Wilkinson, store manager at M&S Cheshire Oaks, said: “It was always our intention to employ as many local people as possible and we are thrilled to have 30 new recruits who have come to us via the Marks & Start programme.

“Sometimes people need some extra help and support to overcome the barriers they face in gaining employment. Marks & Start helps participants build confidence and gain the skills they need to help secure a job.

“All of our colleagues are now excitedly helping us to put the finishing touches to our Cheshire Oaks store and we can’t wait to open the doors to shoppers and unveil all of the team’s hard work for the first time.”
