THE NEW mayor of Ellesmere Port formally took up her office at a ceremony on Wednesday.

Mum-of-eight Cllr Pat Merrick, who represents the Rossmore ward, has taken over the role from Cllr Angela Claydon.

Sutton councillor Paul Donovan was also made deputy mayor at the ceremony, which took place at the Civic Hall.

Cllr Merrick has served the area since being elected to Ellesmere Port and Neston Council in 1998.

During her year in office she hopes to raise funds for groups working with young people in Ellesmere Port, including the sea cadets, Oasis Youth Club and school pastors.
