Neston Players have been nominated for six awards in the 2014 National Operatic and Dramatic Association North West Theatre Awards, following on from their multiple nominations last year.

Covering an area stretching from Cheshire to Cumbria, the awards are held annually to celebrate and recognise amateur dramatic productions across the North West.

The Neston hopefuls this year include Michael Kennedy for best male comedy performance as Sergi in Eurobeat, Tia Gill for best female comedy performance as Boyka in the same show and Greg Jones for best supporting male actor in a drama as The Waiter in Dinner

Tia pops up again for best supporting female actor in a drama as Paige in Dinner while Debbie Colclough is up for best leading female in a drama as Wynne in the same show with Joanne Rymer nominated for best artistic direction of a drama, also for the society’s production of Dinner.

Players chairman Martin Barker said: “Neston Players are delighted to be nominated once again for these regional awards.

“Another six nominations this year really reflects the hard work and effort the membership puts into each and every production.

“Having celebrated our 60th anniversary last year and now with our next production looming on the horizon these really are exciting times for the Players.”

The Players hope to build on recent years’ successes and are keeping their fingers crossed for this year’s awards night early next month.

Meanwhile, their next production A Walk through Time: 1814 – 2014 will be the world premiere of a new play inspired by and celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Neston Female Society and devised by the Players’ themselves.

A Walk through Time is a unique production that has been written by members of Neston Players to celebrate and pay tribute to the 200 year anniversary of Neston Female Society,” said Martin.

“It explores the history behind the society and why the tradition and values behind the annual walk are still strong and relevant today.”

The play is to be performed from May 28 to May 31 at Neston Civic Hall.

Locally, tickets are available from Temptations and the Brown Horse in Neston and from Mozquitos and Angelina Gems in Parkgate.
