FORMER pupils presented the current crop of high achievers with medals at Neston High School.

The school was marking its 40th year of providing comprehensive education at its annual presentation evening on Thursday, September 13.

Award-winning students from KS3, KS4 and KS5 were presented with a special medal to mark the occasion.

The medals were presented by ex-students of the school, identified through its 40th anniversary project ‘RU1OFR10000?’ which aims to trace the 10,000 or so students who have passed through the school since it became a comprehensive in 1972.

Speakers for the evening included the current head boy, Harry Smith, and head girl, Jessica Christy, who spoke with pride about the many opportunities open to students both inside and outside the classroom.

Chairman of governors Reg Chrimes outlined the history of the school and how its comprehensive nature had increased the life chances for so many and headteacher Steven Dool who introduced a slide show of the achievements of past students.

Mr Dool said: “This was a fantastic evening where we were able to celebrate the history of comprehensive education at Neston High School and demonstrate its success through the achievements of former students.”

He introduced the final speaker for the evening, ex-student Stephen Thomson, who, having graduated from Oxford University, is currently undertaking a PhD in astrophysics at Cambridge University.

Stephen spoke with obvious pride about his time at Neston and in an inspirational speech encouraged all students to aim to be the very best that they can be.
