Explorer backpacks have been introduced at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port to help families and youngsters explore the heritage site

Ready-made waterway days are on offer at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port packed with fun in more ways than one.

The Canal & River Trust has announced the arrival of brand new family friendly resources to help families and youngsters enjoy the heritage site.

Families and school groups are now able to borrow ‘Explorer’ backpacks to help them discover the museum’s fascinating features.

The backpacks contain activities children can do around the museum along with objects and resources they need to complete them.

Helen Evans, education co-ordinator at the trust, said: “We have developed the backpacks in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council with thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

“The museum is a great place for families to enjoy and explore together and the backpacks are designed in a way to do just that.”

She added that families can explore engineering and focus on social history while using kit in the backpacks including a magnifying glass, spy book, slate and chalk, a set of nuts and bolts and a ‘battle of the boats’ card set.
