A GANG of bogus callers who preyed on vulnerable South Cheshire pensioners have been jailed for more than 30 years.

The group, members of the travelling community, burgled four elderly residents in Crewe and Nantwich, in most incidents posing as water board engineers to gain access into homes before making off with cash and valuables.

The gang were involved in up to 35 distraction burglaries and attempted burglaries across the UK, stealing a total of £22,408 from their vulnerable victims.

In one incident in July 2006, 90-year-old Nantwich pensioner Dorothy Young had her £6,000 life savings stolen by the heartless conmen.
