STIGMA against people with mental health problems will be tackled at a fun day.

The EPIC Leisure Centre, Ellesmere Port, will host a day of celebrations on Mental Health Day.

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will host the activities on Saturday, October 9.

The trust will launch the ‘Get Moving’ themed fun day and annual members’ meeting from 10.30am-3.30pm.

Avril Devaney, CWP director of nursing and patient partnership, said: “This event is one of many to mark ‘Time to Get Moving’ week as part of the national Time to Change campaign to end mental health discrimination and break down the myths surrounding mental health problems.

“Our challenging stigma event, which is open to everyone, is designed to get people moving and boost their mental well-being.

“One in four people will experience problems with their mental health at some point during their lives, yet the subject is still one of the biggest taboos in society today.

“By bringing people together we aim to break down the myths surrounding mental illness and continue our fight to raise awareness of discrimination.”

Sue Baker, director of Time to Change, said: “Prejudice lurks in us all and is small and unintentional.”

Entertainment at the EPIC will include face painting, music, dance, drama, sport and arts and people can also learn more about the trust’s mental health, learning disability and drug and alcohol services.
