Mayor of Ellesmere Port Gareth Anderson opts for homegrown car

MAYORS are usually ferried around in a vintage Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

But Ellesmere Port’s mayor councillor Gareth Anderson is arriving at functions in the town in a locally built Vauxhall Astra.

He said: “My first decision on becoming mayor was to replace the mayoral Vauxhall Vectra with an Astra – the pride of Ellesmere Port. Its colour also matches the town’s crest.

“I have toured the Vauxhall plant and believe that we should celebrate the Astra’s success.

“I am extremely proud that the Astra is built here in Ellesmere Port and believe it is only right and proper that an Astra should be the mayoral car which helps me carry out my civic duties.”
