WELSHPOOL stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games with a narrow win at Maesydre.

With little between the sides throughout, defender Dan March produced the decisive moment when his looping 14th minute header found the net after Mike Thompson's cross from the left had glanced off Aber's Aneurin Thomas.

Pool boss Tommi Morgan was more than satisfied with his side's performance against his former club, particularly with key defenders Geraint Windsor and Brett Jefferies both missing.

"Some days you've just got to dig in and I was chuffed to keep a clean sheet," he said.

Both sides had their openings in a keenly contested affair, with Dave Cunnah's 30-yarder flying narrowly wide as Pool had the better of the first period.

But Aber were also proving a threat, and went close with Stuart Roberts' goalbound shot rebounding off a post.

The Black and Greens enjoyed plenty of possession after the break with Glyndwr Hughes spurning a couple of good opportunities to level matters in an encouraging opening 15-minute period of the game.

One break saw the front runner slip the ball just wide after Luke Sherbon had split the defence and he later had an effort ruled out for offside.

At the other end, Mike Thompson volleyed inches over the bar from a right wing cross while Pool substitute Will Thomas spurned a good chance to wrap up the points when foiled by keeper Karl Llewis in the closing moments.

Aber kept plugging away, but their efforts came to nothing as they slipped to a second straight defeat.
