A MAN has died and another is seriously injured after a car collided with a HGV near Capenhurst following a police pursuit.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “A call was received by a member of the public who described three men wearing balaclavas and carrying a sledgehammer in the car park of the Eight Rights, Cousens Way, Chester at 3.08am on Wednesday.

“A patrol attended the scene, arriving within five minutes. On arrival, a silver Vauxhall Omega left the car park, travelling at speed.

“Details of the incident were passed to patrols in the area, asking for sightings of the vehicle.

“The patrol lost sight of the vehicle after following the car for a short distance on the A5116.

“At 03.23 this morning, a different patrol found a silver Vauxhall Omega, which had been involved in a road traffic collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the A540 and Capenhurst Lane close to the Yacht Inn.

“Two males were still in the car, the driver was seriously injured and taken to hospital and the passenger died at the scene.”

As a result of the incident, the A540 at the junction of the A550 at Two Mills has been closed and drivers are being asked to use alternative routes.
