MACDONALD Craxton Wood Hotel is investing more than £2m in a refurbishment that will see the country house’s Vital Health and Wellbeing Club given a full upgrade and extension and 70 bedrooms get a facelift.

The spa renovations began at the hotel in early January and will take around six months to complete, with anticipation that it will open by the end of June.

The four-star Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel, part of AA Hotel Group of the Year Macdonald Hotels, is in Parkgate Road at Ledsham.

The Vital Health and Wellbeing Club will have an 18-metre refurbished swimming pool, a poolside sauna and steam room, 12 spa treatment rooms plus full spa thermal suite. This includes an aroma steam room, rock sauna, ice fountain, experience shower, two foot spas, wellness room and Rasul mud therapy.

General manager Mark King said: “The team is incredibly excited to announce the significant investment designed to improve our health and wellbeing facilities for our guests.

“We are working with THR3 Design interior designers to create the ultimate tranquil retreat in the North West and state of the art leisure facilities.”

This phase two investment follows the completion of 10 new bedrooms at the end of last year.

Managing director leisure and spa Jeanette Jones said: “We’ve seen a huge increase in the demand for health, wellbeing and leisure facilities. It is important that all of our hotels in the spa collection provide guests with a top quality experience from start to finish.”

A further 60 additional bedrooms are due to be refurbished later in 2014.
