NEW player-manager Alex Caven will be introduced by Llangefni Town to the Talwrn Road faithful ahead of today’s derby with fellow strugglers Porthmadog.

With the clubs languishing bottom and next-to-bottom this is a crucial six-pointer.

Caven has been named as Llangefni’s replacement for Adie Jones, who left by mutual agreement last week after a sequence of dismal results.

The midfielder, who is 28 and has switched from Colwyn Bay in the Unibond League, is recovering his fitness after a six-month lay-off.

Merseyside-based Caven was a trainee at Burnley and has played for Droylsden in the then-styled Conference.

Llangefni’s general manager Bryan Owen said: “Alex comes to us highly recommended and we expect him to bring in several new signings to strengthen the squad when the new year transfer window opens.”

Llangefni, for whom Darren Thomas returns today, registered a home and away double over Port in the Loosemores Cup qualifying stages, winning 2-1 at The Traeth and 2-0 at Talwrn Road.

Porthmadog manager Viv Williams, who lives in Llangefni, will have to check among his walking wounded before settling on the visitors’ line-up.

Right-back Kyle Jacobs (ankle), left-back Barry Evans (also ankle), left midfielder Aled Rowlands (thigh) and forward Marcus Orlik (leg) are all out.

Aberystwyth Town will hope to make a swift riposte against today’s visitors Haverfordwest as they look to secure their place among the leading pack, writes John Bridgwater.

Midfielder Bari Morgan faces a fitness check after falling awkwardly on his shoulder in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at TNS.

However, Aber have options with Gareth Hughes having come through a reserve-team game following his ankle injury while forward Stuart Roberts is back today after suspension before starting another two-match ban next week.
