A FAMILY have been left broken-hearted after a beloved family pet was kicked to death.
Alan Tear and Leanne Thomas, of Pound Road, Little Sutton, first realised something was wrong with two-year-old cat Misty when she returned home on Friday night.
“She just lay down on the floor, panting,” said Alan. “I knew something was wrong and rushed her straight to the vet.
“He did all he could to save her but in the end the damage was just too much. She had three broken ribs. I can’t believe that someone could do that to a cat, it’s disgusting.”
Misty had been kicked so hard that the blow left her with three broken ribs and massive internal injuries.
Veterinary surgeon Sean Moran of Littlecroft Veterinary Practice said: “Her injuries, though it is possible that they could have been caused by falling from a height on to a branch, are consistent with being caused by blunt force trauma such as a hard kick which is the likely cause.
“Her internal organs were bruised so badly that her little body just couldn’t recover.
“The impact was so severe it affected most of her internal organs and split her spleen into two.”
In addition to dealing with Mist’s death, Alan and Leanne have also been left with a £680 vet bill after veterinary staff spent the weekend battling to save Misty’s life.
Alan, who is Leanne’s full-time carer and looks after the couple’s four children, added: “I’m just speechless that someone could do this.
“They have not only taken away a beloved pet but they have also taken the food from our children’s mouths because we now have to find money to pay the vet bill. It’s just so upsetting that someone could hurt Misty like that.”
