WREXHAM get the TV coverage for the second time in a week tonight when they welcome Blue Square Premier promotion rivals Cambridge United to the Racecourse (7.45pm).

And the Dragons will be determined to take all three points from the live Setanta Sports clash having being held to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at another team with real ambitions of returning to the Football League, Torquay United.

A point from the hard-fought battle, which was also broadcast by Setanta, was far from a bad result for Dean Saunders’ eighth-placed side.

But, given that runaway leaders Burton Albion extended their advantage over them the following day, it now looks like two dropped.

That was certainly boss Saunders’ view after poor marking from a corner gifted the fourth-placed Gulls an equaliser.

He said: “Would I have settled for a point before the game? Well, no, because I want us to win every game and I was expecting us to go there and win.

“I was really disappointed with the goal we conceded because we went over set-pieces on the morning of the match and 20 minutes before the match, but we still managed to lose a goal.

“I think that’s the first goal we’ve conceded from a set-piece since I’ve been here, so it was hard to swallow.”

Wrexham are four points behind fifth-placed Cambridge, who occupy the final play-off place, and 22 behind a table-topping Burton outfit who set a league record on Saturday when they made it 12 wins on the spin.

Saunders has not given up hope on catching the Brewers, though, given the Dragons have four games in hand on them.

Tonight’s visit of the U’s is followed by Tuesday’s border derby at home to troubled Northwich Vics (7.45pm).

Rock-bottom Victoria were forced to play Saturday’s home match with Histon at Altrincham’s Moss Lane after being locked out of their Marston Arena home by stadium landlord Mike Connett.

Other than left-back Neil Taylor (hamstring) and midfielder Steve Abbott (calf), Saunders has no injury worries.

The loans of midfielders Nathan Woolfe, from Bolton Wanderers, and Nathan Fairhurst, from Preston North End, are up, but they are expected to be extended.

Saunders is continuing to attempt to strengthen his squad and has been linked with a swoop for Swansea City’s midfielder Owain Tudor Jones, who this week admitted he may need to go out on loan to safeguard his place in John Toshack’s Wales squad.

Saunders, who is number two to Toshack, is keeping tightlipped on his targets but he is also said to be keen on Swansea’s Wales Under 21s international midfielder Shaun MacDonald.

One man on his way out of Wrexham is striker Simon Brown, who has joined right-back Kyle Critchell on loan at York City in deal that will see him stay with Martin Foyle’s men until the end of the season.
