A JUNIOR mayor and her deputy have been appointed in Ellesmere Port.

On the morning of the investiture of the new mayor of Ellesmere Port Bob Crompton, Westminster Community Primary School pupil Louise Taylor was made junior mayor and Mia Hewitt from Parklands Primary School was made deputy mayor.

Almost 300 children from 10 primary schools attended the event on May 22.

Pat Merrick, the outgoing mayor, hopes to run the event each year for children who have just completed their SATs. It was dedicated to the memory of Honorary Alderman and past mayor Cllr Peter Shephard, who introduced the Junior Citizenship programme that ran until CWAC took over from Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council in 2008.
