A LESBIAN bus driver who put her former lover through a terrifying kidnap ordeal could be facing a jail term.

Lesley Hodkinson

Crewe woman Lesley Hodkinson, 27, had denied the offence along with harassment and making threats to kill.

But two days after the facts unfolded at Maidstone Crown Court she changed her plea, admitting kidnapping and harassment of PC Samantha Barker, 21, a former topless model.

She maintained her not guilty plea to threatening to kill Miss Barker and her new lover Jackie Rogers and those charges were left on file.

Watched by her former lover from the public gallery, Hodkinson, whose parents live in Gatefield Street, Crewe, smiled before entering her guilty plea.

Her lawyer, Michelle Fawcett, said Hodkinson had suffered an emotional breakdown and could not remember everything that happened during the kidnap.

A jury had heard how Hodkinson abducted her ex-lover at knifepoint and took her on a frightening 100-mile round trip from Rochester to Dover during which she threatened to 'chop' her up and drive off a cliff.

Simon Russell Flint, prosecuting, said emotions caused by the breakdown of the relationship spilled over into the offences.

'Where there was once love and affection, there became hatred and anger,' he said.

The women became lovers in June 1998 when they were living in Crewe, where Miss Barker was taking a course in dance and contemporary music. She also worked as a barmaid at the Limelight club in Crewe.

By June last year, Miss Barker bought a house in Rochester, where she lived with Hodkinson, who became a driver for the Arriva coach company in Gillingham.

But the relationship became volatile and Miss Barker left her and found a new lover in Jackie Rogers, who also worked for the bus company.

Hodkinson, who had served in the Army, started to harass her former lover, putting her in fear of violence. When police went to arrest Hodkinson at her home in Jasmine Close, Chatham, she accelerated towards an officer as she tried to drive off.

She was later charged and released on bail and on March 8 went to Miss Barker's home. She let herself in and dragged Miss Barker at knifepoint to her own car.

She headed to Dover and during the journey she kept asking Miss Barker 'Do you love Jackie?' When told it was none of her business she became angry.

She eventually turned around and got Miss Barker to drive back to Medway.

The victim escaped while officers managed to stop Hodkinson jumping off the quay at Rochester. A razor blade was found in her bra.

In accepting the pleas, Mr Flint said Hodkinson did not dispute the facts as he had outlined them.

Probation and psychiatric reports are now being prepared for sentencing in six weeks. Hodkinson was remanded in custody.
