MID Cheshire’s music stars proved they are amongst the most talented in the North West at the first ever Summer in the Suburbs festival, says organiser Damon Horrill.

Thousands of people turned out for the three-day festival, which saw 150 artists perform at De Bees Music Bar and The Red Lion pub in Winsford from Friday to Sunday.

The inaugural event, masterminded by social enterprise company The Hive, showcased Northwich and Winsford's finest musicians and artists, and aimed to prove that great talent can come from outside major North West cities such as Liverpool and Manchester.

Highlights included performances from the Blue Juice Big Band on Friday, an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet by the Winsford-based Really Short Theatre Company on Saturday, and a set by rising stars The Cordels on Sunday.

Mr Horrill, pictured (right) with Winsfor mayor Cllr Nick Harris, said: "We set out to showcase what's happening around here to help people realise that they live in a vibrant creative town. I think we’ve done more than that.

"Having two venues with a varied programme of events happening simultaneously really gave it the festival feel. It is that which we would like to enhance next year with an outdoor stage on the marina.

"We're going to work very hard over the next 12 months to make sure Summer in the Suburbs is a festival that puts both Winsford and Mid Cheshire on the map, and gives us something to be proud of."
