THE Blue Planet Aquarium is launching a spectacular ‘I Love Big Sharks’ campaign this month.

Visitors will be able to come face to face with more than a dozen species of sharks and rays ranging from tiny baby dogfish wriggling in their egg-cases to giant tropical sharks.

Blue Planet Aquarium’s three million-litre Caribbean Reef Exhibit also contains some giants of the deep including nurse sharks, lemon sharks, black and white tip reef sharks, zebra sharks, stingrays, and the famous sand tiger sharks.

Visitors can enjoy stunning views of these magnificent creatures via a giant four metre tall viewing window made from super-strong 23cm thick acrylic and from within a 71-metre-long underwater walkthrough tunnel – one of the longest in Europe.

Using a mixture of exhibitions, entertaining talks, diving demonstrations and fun activities, the ‘Summer of Sharks’ aims to dispel many of the popular misconceptions of sharks as mindless man-eaters.

Blue Planet Aquarium’s Rebecca Collins said: “People are genuinely fascinated by these amazing creatures which have existed relatively unchanged since before the time of the dinosaurs.”

There’s also a Shark Trail, competitions and other shows along with information on shark conservation and what we can all do to help save sharks.
