A MULTI-MILLION pound health centre could include new public transport links in Helsby, Frodsham and Elton.

Vale Royal Cllr Alan McKie said it was essential to improve public transport between the communities for the scheme to be a success.

He said: “I think it is a real necessity to have a link between Helsby, Frodsham and Elton and I am talking to people all the time, we are working on it.”

Cheshire West Primary Care Trust is funding the super-surgery which will provide dental treatment, physiotherapy, an opticians and a sexual health clinic.

Trust chief executive Helen Bellairs spoke to Helsby Parish Council about the scheme.

She said: “We have a pretty aging population which makes Frodsham one of the most deprived and needy parts of the area.

“We are talking to some of the councillors about better transport links and we have got every confidence we can have conversation with the new authority.

“We are working with the shadow authority about planning permission for the building and it is going well.”

It is hoped the treatment centre – which will provide health care for about 25,000 patients in Frodsham and Helsby and Elton – could be open by 2010 on the site of Frodsham College.

Mrs Bellairs added: “We want a premises fit for the 21st century.

“There will be some services provided in Helsby and all the services in Frodsham will be available in Helsby. We are committed to bringing more services into the community.”
