SPENDING your honeymoon in a dentist's surgery is not most couple's idea of a romantic start to married life.

But bride-to-be Jane Willett will spend the first few days after her wedding fixing the teeth of some of Romania's deprived children.

And the 33-year-old, who works at Raby Road dental practice in Neston, is training up her fiancé, Peter Hardy, to be her assistant.

The couple, who will marry on Good Friday, decided that lying on a beach for two weeks was not for them.

Instead, they will spend nine days living in a shack in the tiny village of Suciu-de-Jos and working in a makeshift surgery.

Miss Willett said: "Both of us wanted to do something to make a difference.

"We have very busy lives and our honeymoon was the only sacred time we had and could use to do some good.

"It will be quite an unusual honeymoon and we are both really excited about it.

"It's a little village made of clay and mud.

"I'm training Peter up in his spare time to be my dental assistant and he's coping very well.

"It's a bit of a change from his usual job - he is in banking - but he's taken to it and by the time we get out there he should be proficient."

The couple, who live in Noctorum, met at Deeside Divers. They were engaged two years ago and will marry at Thornton Hall Hotel.

But they could not decide what to do for their honeymoon until Jane saw an advert for The Young Smile For Romania charity in a dental magazine.

They applied to become volunteers and will fly out in April to treat children in the village, where there are massive rates of tooth decay.

And plans for the wed-ding have been specially tailored to take into account their unusual choice of destination.

Jane rifled through charity shop shelves to find a wedding dress.

She added: "It seemed ridiculous to do something for charity and spend £1000 on a dress so I found one in Oxfam."

They are now trying to build up a big stash of toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental gloves and tissues for their visit.

Peter, 50, said: "When Jane showed me the charity on the internet and told me I'd have to train as her assistant I just said yeah let's go for it.

"We have our proper holidays like going skiing but we are really hoping to make this a regular as well.

"We are just trying to collect as many toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste as we can now."
