A HAVE-A-GO hero in Parkgate chased a burglar who stole the purse of an 89-year-old woman.

The man in his 60s, who wishes to remain anonymous, spotted a man acting suspiciously in his cul-de-sac, the Looms in Parkgate, while watching TV at 10pm on Sunday.

The burglar walked past his elderly neighbour’s house before turning back and walking down the side of the property.

The man: “I went over there and the door was half open on the side.

“I don’t know whether he was taking advantage opening the door or whether she was being watched.

“I gave a loud knock on the door. He opened it and said ‘you frightened the life out of me’.

“As soon as I asked who he was he shot past me. I chased after him and got as far as the corner.

“He turned round and said ‘come on then’. He said ‘I’ll spray you’.

“He lifted something out of his pocket and I saw this liquid coming towards me. I had my arm up to cover my face.”

The pensioner then chased the burglar again, to the end of Looms Road before he turned left down Boathouse Lane.

The man added: “As it happens she walks her cat. I saw her as I was coming back.

“She thinks she might have left the door open.”

He said the victim, who turns 90 soon, is recovering well from the ordeal.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses.
