BOROUGH residents who are at risk of losing their homes will benefit from a mortgage rescue scheme.

Ellesmere Port and Neston is one of 12 authorities in the region that has agreed to fast-track the Government initiative to prevent properties from being repossessed.

Minister for the North West, Beverley Hughes, who was brought up in the town, said: “The housing market in particular is suffering, but a range of measures are being put in place.

“Help for people who fall into arrears with their mortgage is being embraced by councils in the North West with 12 agreeing to fast track the Government’s mortgage rescue scheme.

“The scheme is designed to help people having trouble repaying their mortgage to stay in their homes by selling a portion of the equity to a local housing association.”
