A NEWLY-MARRIED man has slammed a Cheshire Oaks store for its conduct when providing suits for the groomsmen.

Andy, 35, and Gillian McCauley, from Widnes, tied the knot on February 20 in Peckforton Castle.

But the run-up to their big day was anything but happy.

Andy had ordered six adult suits and two children’s suits from Moss Bros at Cheshire Oaks.

He said: “When I went to pick up the suits, the guy was quite short with us. I took the stuff home and they had sent the wrong shirt and a button was missing on one jacket.

“When I went to take the suits back, we got the manager of the Cheshire Oaks store swearing in front of my future wife telling me his staff are stupid.

“He said he had given the lad a written warning. He said ‘the lad is a moron’.”

The groomsmen returned the Friday before the wedding to collect a replacement shirt but were told by the manager they could only offer a plain white shirt – not a matching shirt.

Only for a £10 charge could they provide the shirt he had ordered.

Andy added: “I got on to head office and it seemed like it was all resolved. I arranged to pick it up on the Tuesday.

“I was told by the assistant manager and complaints department to get there for 9am to pick them up. One of the best men went but they refused to open the door until 10am even though he was knocking.”

When the black suits were eventually collected, one of them had ill-matching grey trousers.

Andy believes the store manager broke employment law by discussing a disciplinary matter.

“But there was no investigation so the guy was lying to me anyway,” he added.

“When he called the lad a moron I said ‘I’ve got to end this conversation’. What I was afraid of was him saying something that could really upset one of his members of staff.

“I’ve never seen incompetence at that level in my life.

“My wife was in tears.”

Andy refused an initial offer of £280 compensation before accepting a full refund of £678.

Moss Bros company secretary Robin Piggott said: “Mr McCauley obviously had a very fraught experience despite Moss Bros pulling out all the stops to make sure the order was delivered on time, which we did do, but admittedly late in the day.

“We are in the process of setting up a new customer service centre and it seems that this may have been the cause of some of the issues.”
