A PACK of hard-working Scouts have transformed a care home garden in time for the Diamond Jubilee.

1st Great Sutton Scout Group completed their project as part of Scout Community Week, a national initiative to inspire Scouts throughout the UK to help out in their home towns.

The youngsters chose Whetstone Hey Care Home, where they decided to upgrade the community garden within the home complex.

The spruce-up included digging over, new planting, furniture restoration, maintenance work and a general tidy-up.

B&Q in Ellesmere Port generously provided the Scouts with plants, compost and wood stain.

The finished garden was formally ‘handed over’ to staff at a ceremony last week and will be used for residents’ Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday.

Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Andrew Miller, who attended the event, said: “It was clear talking to the residents how delighted they are with the garden. I would like to thank the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers for all the work that they do in the community.”

Group leader Dave Burrows said: “The Scout leaders and group executive committee have decided to extend their links with the home so local scouting can continue to offer assistance when needed.”
