A CHILD was hit by a car on an Ellesmere Port street just three weeks after a resident predicted it would happen.

The girl, believed to be about six years old, suffered a lip injury in the collision in the incident on Sycamore Drive at 3.40pm on Tuesday.

The girl was moved to a house on the street before an ambulance was called and she was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where her injuries were treated.

The road was closed from its junction with Chester Road.

Last month Sycamore Drive resident Lynda Wright, whose cat was run over, warned: “It could be a child next.”

Speaking after the girl was hit, Mrs Wright said: “We saw her lying on the floor.

“The bang was so loud. Had he not stopped when he did he could have seriously injured lots of people.

“Sometimes it’s like living on the outskirts of Brands Hatch here.”

Witnesses reported seeing two teenagers in a black Vauxhall Corsa driving toward the scene of the incident.

One woman told the driver to slow down but instead he honked his horn and waved.

She said: “Me and another girl were by Whitby High School gates. As we were going to cross the car beeped the horn showing off.

“Then he sped up down Sycamore Drive. He must have floored it in second going about 40mph.

“It’s as if kids can’t walk to school these days.”

Police spokeswoman Shelley Williams said: “Accounts were taken from the driver and witnesses involved. No arrests were made and the girl is likely to make a full recovery.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council spokeswoman Rachael Ashley said: “A speed and count analysis has been done on Sycamore Drive between Edisbury Road and Walnut Grove and we are now going to analyse the results.”
