RESIDENTS living in the Wrexham South area are being urged to get to know their local police officers, who are aiming to restore confidence in the community.

Community beat managers from Wrexham South, which includes Rhos, Penycae, Johnstown, Ruabon, Cefn Mawr, and Chirk, are patrolling the streets after signing three-year contracts to stay on the beat.

The team now numbers 10, with the addition of PC Gary Robertshaw at Cefn Mawr and PC David Bates at Rhos.

The team members have all signed contracts enabling each community to have continuity and a familiar point of contact.

Sgt Jim Staunton said: 'I would request members of the public get to know their community beat managers and see them as valued members of the community.

'The team will be on hand to be responsive to local people's needs and concerns. It is my intention to bring back traditional policing but with a modern application.

'The main focus for all community beat managers is to effectively tackle incidents of anti-social behaviour. Any incidents that negatively affect people's lives is not acceptable.'

Sgt Staunton added: 'Persons responsible for this type of behaviour will be robustly dealt with, utilising enforcement powers open to NWP. At present we have a dedicated Anti-Social Behaviour Patrol every weekend utilising CBMs and supported by mobile response officers.

'The CBMs will be encouraged to engage criminality and work in partnership with the local community and key partners, including local community councils.'
