CELEBRATIONS were in the air at Queen’s Park High School as students collected their GCSE results.

The school said this year group achieved excellent results which managed to outperform the good results achieved last year.

The percentage of students achieving five A*-C including English and maths was said to be the school’s best ever results.

Head teacher Stephen Casey said: "I am immensely proud of our students and the results they have achieved. They are a credit to themselves and their families.

"I am delighted for those students who achieved a string of grades at A and A*, as well as all those who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve their target grades."

A number of students achieved exceptional results and gained a string of high grades including the core subjects of English, maths and science.

These included Anna Grainger (10 A), Poppy McCartney (7 A*, 2 A, 1 B), Adam Clark (8 A*, 3 A), Louise Shaw (7 A*, 1 A, 1 B), Rhys Williams (9 A*, 2 A), James Pugh (3 A, 5 A, 1 B), Richard Grainger (1 A*, 7 A, 2 B), Rebecca Davies (4 A*, 2 A, 4 B), Olivia Humphreys (2 A*, 4 A, 4 B), Ellen Young (2 A*, 6 A, 1 B), Ewan Lilley (2 A*, 5 A, 3 B) and Cara Pinder Emery (1 A*, 8 A, 1 B).

A number of subjects achieved outstanding results including triple science with almost half of all grades at A* or A. In the first year of students taking statistics GCSE, the results were outstanding with 100% achieving A* grades.

Year 11 learning manager Clare Phillips said: ‘It has been a pleasure to work with this year group over the past five years, and I am very proud of the results our students have achieved.

"Every student worked really hard individually, in classes and with teachers and mentors as part of our newly developed raising achievement programme.

"I think it is an excellent testament to everybody’s hard work that the year has culminated in achieving the school’s best ever results.

"I am thrilled that more than 90 of them are coming back to continue their education at our sixth form and we wish them and the remainder of the year group every success as they move forward to the next stage of their lives."
