Donations raised at the funeral of a Frodsham man have been donated to Halton Talking Newspaper (HTN) as he was a loyal listener.

Tony Harding, of Bellemonte Road, had lost his sight in later life and become a keen follower of HTN’s recordings.

His family decided they would ask for donations to the group instead of flowers at his funeral, and managed to raise a fantastic sum of £800.

Volunteers at HTN said they were ‘moved and delighted’ to receive the cheque.

Halton Talking Newspaper provides a weekly selection of news about Runcorn, Widnes, Helsby and Frodsham using from the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News and the Chester Chronicle.

Cath Stone, of HTN, said: “The family would like us to use this money to help spread the word about HTN to give other people the same pleasure that Tony had each week.

“We are sure there are many older people in the area who now find it difficult or impossible to cope with small newspaper print.

“Anyone who perhaps can’t get out and about so much will enjoy having the local news brought to them in this way so that they still feel involved in their community.

“We provide a service with a smile, our listeners often say that the readers feel like friends and they easily recognise us if we phone or visit to deal with any problems.

“We will provide a free player if required for the memory stick which will arrive each week post free.”
