DRIVERS in Ellesmere Port will receive free child seat checks as part of a winter driving event.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Safe and Sustainable Travel Team is working in partnership with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Morrisons supermarket to prepare drivers for the change in weather.

The Winter Road Safety Driving initiative will take place at Morrisons in Whitby tomorrow (Thursday) from 10.30am-2.30pm.

There will be advice on basic car maintenance to ensure drivers and their vehicles are ready for inclement weather, and a team of road safety officers will be on hand to give advice to parents and carers to ensure babies and children are properly restrained while travelling in the car.

Cllr Brian Jones said: “At child seat checks organised across the UK, as many as eight out of 10 child car seats are not fitted correctly with many children not restrained at all.

“The help and advice given will help make a difference in reducing the number of child casualties on the roads and I am sure the winter driving advice will also be extremely useful.”
