A FORMER antiques dealer is still waiting for a hospital appointment – two months after waking up light-headed.

Joe Gilmour, of Chester Road in Whitby, says the condition is making him “depressed” and that the waiting time is “unacceptable”.

Having visited his doctor at Ellesmere Port Hospital, Joe, 62, has given an appointment at the Countess of Chester Hospital on August 24 but he is worried about the length of time he must wait.

“Everyday I wake up and it’s like ‘he we go again’,” he said.

“I have been fit and healthy all my working life but one day I woke up very light headed and I couldn’t stand up properly.

“My doctor said I should get an appointment at the ENT unit but I have got to wait two months.

“I have been paying money into the NHS system all my life, we deserve better than this long wait.

“It’s is depressing me because I want to find out what is wrong.”

Joe, who is now retired from his antiques business, has contacted local MP Andrew Miller about the situation but he wants to alert members of the public about his situation.

NHS Western Cheshire confirmed that Mr Gilmour’s appointment date fell well within the target waiting time of 18 weeks.

Spokeswoman Debbie Smith said: “Nobody should have to wait more than 18 weeks from the time they are referred to the start of treatment unless clinically appropriate.

“If an individual has any concerns about their care, we would strongly advise them to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01244 650368, which is available from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.”
